There is no single “best” martial art.

Every martial art has evolved over years of testing and training for specific situations and goals.

The better question is:

“What situation are you intending to train for?”

That depends entirely on your goals and what you hope to learn.

Every gym has its own culture, training style, and instructor strengths.

Most gyms offer free trials or allow you to observe classes. We recommend visiting 3–4 local gyms to see:

  • How classes are structured
  • Which instructors you connect with
  • What training environment feels right for you

The Gi serves several important purposes.

  • Improves hygiene by reducing skin-to-skin contact
  • Simulates real-world clothing grips
  • Develops technical grappling control
  • Provides durable reinforced gripping surfaces

In real-life situations, people are usually wearing jackets, hoodies, belts, or sleeves — not fight shorts.

Machine wash your Gi in warm or cold water and hang dry overnight.

We recommend avoiding hot water and excessive dryer heat to prevent shrinkage, since most Gis are cotton-based.

After every single use.

Nobody wants to train with a dirty or sweaty Gi. Clean gear is part of good martial arts etiquette and respect for your training partners.

Boxing gloves should not be placed in the washing machine.

The inside of gloves can be sprayed or disinfected, but your best defense against odor and bacteria is clean hand wraps.

Wash your hand wraps after every training session to keep your gloves fresh and hygienic.
